Dementia VS Alzheimer's

Dementia is the category. There are many different kinds of dementia. Alzheimer's is a kind of dementia but not all dementia is Alzheimer's.

1 in 3 over 80

Alzheimer's is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States. 1 in 3 seniors will die with dementia, though it is not a normal part of aging.

6 Million & Rising

There are currently 6.2 million Americans who are living with Alzheimer's disease. By 2050 that number is expected to double to nearly 13 million.

Information gathered from the 2021 Alzheimer's Association Facts & Figures report.

Caregiver Tips

Here's just a few things I wish I knew about Alzheimer's before I started  caregiving!
And  remember,  you are not alone. There are resources to help you along this journey!  Join a  support  group  & ask for  help  when you need it! We're only  human.

Stop Trying To Reason

If your loved one with dementia says the sky is a beautiful shade of green, then the sky surely is green! Do not try to correct them. There is no point in trying to reason with the reality your loved one is in.

They Are Not To Blame

When you find yourself frustrated that your household items are all rearranged, remember they didn't do it on purpose. In order to give Grams the best care, I had to learn to separate her from the disease.

Keep Them Involved

When I first started caring I felt I had to do everything for Grams. Though she may not succeed perfectly by allowing her to be part of everyday life, like chores, she maintains a sense of purpose.
